Darhkold Lina and Doon first return to Ember, my hopes seemed to be confirmed – it was eerie, dark, and mysterious. Was this all the authors fantasy of the world being destroyed but then being rebuilt totally m This book had some promise but I think dzrkhold squandered what could have been a very inspiring re-building of civilization story.
I can imagine that might have turned off many a reluctant reader as the morality was not at all hidden in the rest of the series.
The more important question may be is it necessary to have read the other books in the series recently. Doesn’t work that way. Surely her life was easier when she was living in Ember than it is now. The story is long, so incredibly detailed, why? Am I the only one who’s noticed this?
A good ending to a good series. Jeanne DuPrau doesn’t write every minute of every day. So she keeps doing it. Together, Lina and Doon must go back underground to retrieve what was lost and bring light to a dark world.

Even though I did not like the subsequent Ember books as much as the first I continued reading them and had to read this one, the last in the series. I liked the fast pace of the story as I think it will make for an interesting read for elementary students. Had she done something along those lines not necessarily right along those lines, but something similarI would have ranked The Diamond of Darkhold every bit as good as The City of Ember.
They capture Doon, but he manages to communicate with Lina and she goes back to Sarkhold for help. That is that she wanted to show us how our world is viewed Lina and Doon escaped the dying city of Ember and led their people to the town of Sparks.
